The College of Music is one of the nation’s largest and most respected comprehensive music schools. It offers fully accredited degrees from the bachelor to doctoral levels and is home to the world’s first jazz studies degree program. Faculty include internationally acclaimed artists and scholars in composition, conducting, ethnomusicology, music education, music entrepreneurship, music history, music theory and performance. The college presents more than 1,100 concerts and recitals annually. UNT music alumni can be found around the globe in impressive, award-winning careers across a wide-range of music professions.

The UNT College of Music is the choice of 1,550 music majors from all around the world who are pursuing a wide variety of specializations including composition, conducting, ethnomusicology, music education, music history, music theory and performance.

The college provides a rich musical environment with 100 full-time faculty members, 200 adjuncts and graduate assistants, a vast music library and more than 70 student ensembles. Internationally acclaimed faculty members include Grammy Award winners, a Van Cliburn International Piano Competition winner, Guggenheim Fellows and soloists with internationally renowned operas and symphony orchestras.

UNT faculty can be heard on thousands of professional recordings; jazz bass professor Lynn Seaton alone has performed on over 125 recordings.

Over 100 guest artists come to campus every year to perform, teach clinics and provide workshops and master classes.

UNT alumni can be found in every corner of the profession in this country and abroad. Notable alumni include Robert Blocker, Jeff Coffin, Michael Daugherty, Don Henley, Norah Jones, Lecrae, Patricia Racette, Chuck Owen and Snarky Puppy.

UNT offered the first bachelor's degree program in jazz in 1946. UNT’s graduate jazz studies program is consistently rated among the nation's best.

Students have the opportunity to travel nationally and internationally. Recent trips include Austria, Hungary, China, Thailand and Australia.

Our groundbreaking initiative for live streaming our major ensemble concerts has led to over 4,300,000 viewings worldwide, representing over 200 concerts viewed in 1200 cities on five continents.

Over 300,000 volumes of books, hundreds of reference works, a wide variety of online materials and an estimated one million sound recordings are available at the UNT Music Library, one of the most extensive collections in the United States.

The Grammy-nominated One O’Clock Lab Band, UNT’s premier jazz ensemble, has performed and toured throughout the world — including Australia, Canada, England, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Switzerland, Thailand and The Netherlands. The band performs under the direction of Alan Baylock.

The UNT One O’Clock Lab Band has issued 60 albums, and the band has earned seven Grammy nominations over the years, including two in 2010.

The Wind Symphony can be heard on more than 75 albums on GIA, Klavier and Mark Records.

The College of Music education program has a near 100 percent job placement rate.
